Conference Venue

The conference will be held at the

Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science
Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München
Theresienstr. 37-39

The institute is located in the museum area in the centre of Munich, surrounded by three art museums: Alte Pinakothek, Neue Pinakothek and Pinakothek der Moderne. To enter the conference site, you walk up the set of stairs that faces the entrance of the neighbouring building, the Pinakothek der Moderne.

In the building of the institute you will also find the museum Kingdom of Crystals (Museum Reich der Kristalle). All ICWE 2004 participants will have free access to this museum.

The picture on the right shows the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science and its surroundings. The institute is on the right hand side. On left hand side, you can see the entrance of the Pinakothek der Moderne. In the background, you will notice the Alte Pinakothek.

Overview

Take a look at this map for an overview of the conference location. A detailed online map of Munich is provided by Stadtplandienst. On the main page, enter "Muenchen" in the "City" field (Munich will not work). If you enter "Theresienstr. 37" into the "Address/Nr." field, you will be pointed to the conference location.

Getting to the Conference Venue

Munich's public transport system "MVV" is probably the best way to get around in Munich. For detailed information, see language.mvv-muenchen.de/en/.The "Timetable Info" on that webpage will give you travel itineraries. At the conference registration desk, you can get MVV tickets at a rate that is reduced for ICWE participants. These tickets are valid for several days and apply to the whole (inner) city. For the last day, transport to the airport is free.

Tram line 27

Tram line 27 stops just in front of the building (stop "Pinakotheken").

Subway lines U2/U8

Subway lines U2/U8 (from the main railway station) stop at "Theresienstraße"; there, take the exit in the direction of "Universität", and follow Theresienstraße until you cross the tram tracks. Then the conference venue is the building on your right across the street. The whole walk takes about 10min.

Subway lines U3/U6

Subway lines U3/U6 (from Marienplatz/city center) stop at "Universität"; there, take the exit to Schellingstraße in the direction where the train came from, and find Theresienstraße as the second street leaving Ludwigstraße on the right. The workshop venue is two blocks away and is reached within approx. 10min. from the subway.

From the main station (Hauptbahnhof) to the conference venue

Take the S-Bahn (any line) to Karlsplatz/Stachus (one stop in the direction of Ostbahnhof). Ascend to the ground level and take the tram No. 27 in the direction of Petuelring (three stops) to the Pinakothek. The conference venue is at the intersection of Barerstraße and Theresienstraße, next to the tram stop.
